Surf Splash, the world’s only automatic foot shower, celebrates ten years of keeping beach properties virtually sand-free.
Surf Splash is a simple device that works for any beach property, where sand is always an erosive, persistent nuisance. Hook Surf Splash to a garden hose, step onto the spring-loaded platform, and your lower legs are enveloped by a strong spray mist. In about 15 seconds, the sand is washed away from your lower body. Then, step off, and the water shuts off automatically.
Surf Splash owner Jim Frankli, came up with the idea for the automatic foot shower when he became annoyed with having to put down his beach accessories to hose off his legs each time he entered the pool deck of the beach resort where he was vacationing.
“Because Surf Splash is so convenient, resort guests actually use it, unlike the traditional outdoor showers which they often bypass. Using Surf Splash is fun and easy, which translates into a drastic reduction of tracked-in sand by resort guests,” Franklin said. “Resort maintenance staff say Surf Splash results in up to a 90 percent reduction of sand coming into their properties. This means a huge amount of money saved, not only on labor costs, but also on materials normally destroyed by sand, like pool paint, pool decks, pump impellers, floor coverings, vacuums and linens.”
Franklin estimates that Surf Splash has also conserved trillions of gallons of water over the last decade. An independent water test conducted at Bay View Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC, showed that a single Surf Splash unit saved approximately 600 gallons of water per day compared to a hose bib that was in use prior to installation of the unit. Ronnis Revis, the chief engineer who conducted the test, estimated an annual savings of 150,000 gallons at this one property.
In 2013, the company introduced the Surf Splash II, a smaller, portable version of the foot shower for beach homes, pools, large boats and RVs.
